White Pomfret Curry Recipe

Fish curry and rice is the most basic food of the coastal regions. This non-vegetarian authentic white pomfret curry is inspired from Mangalore and Goan cuisines. The curry is a delicacy of a mixture of spices like turmeric, cumin, pepper and chillies.
Let’s now dive into this special recipe by a Mangalorean on how to make white pomfret fish curry.
White Pomfret Curry Recipe
Ingredients
For the Masala
- 5 tbsp Fresh coconut
- 6 Short red chillies
- 1/4 tsp Coriander seeds
- 1/4 tsp Jeera
- 5-6 Peppercorns
- 1 Onion (small)
- 1/4 tsp Haldi/Turmeric powder
- 1 Marble sized Tamarind
Fish
- 2 Pomfret (Medium sized)
Instructions
- Grind the above ingredients in group 1 to a fine paste (Grind fresh coconut, short red chillies, coriander seeds, jeera, peppercorns, onion, turmeric powder and tamarind)
- Put the ground masala and 2 cups of water in a vessel and bring it to a boil, add salt.
- Add the cut pieces of pomfret fish and cook for two minutes.
- Add little coconut juice and stir. Lower the flame, let it boil for a minute.
Seasoning(optional):
Keep a seasoning pan, put 2 tbsp coconut oil. Add one small sliced onion, fry golden brown. Add to the curry.
Serve the hot pomfret Mangalorean curry with rice or neer dosa.
