ONEPLUS has finally launched a mid-range successor to the ONEPLUS X which was launched years earlier. The NORD excels in some departments while lacks in some to avoid cost increase. ONEPLUS has tried very hard to balance the tradeoffs due to the major price difference. For e.g. It does not come with any IP rating for waterproofing but ONEPLUS has stated that there are waterproofing seals on them to prevent water from going inside. So, let’s dive in and see if the OnePlus NORD is worth your hard-earned money by touching on all OnePlus NORD specs. Oh Yes! But before that, you have to look at this ONEPLUS video!

OnePlus NORD CAMERA

The ONEPLUS NORD has a flagship camera setup with a quad camera system in the back and a dual camera in the front. In the back the main sensor is a 48MP SONY IMX586 sensor with OIS (optical image stabilization) which is found in all the ONEPLUS flagships. We can expect the same level of detail in the photos captured in this camera. However, the wide-angle lens comes in at 8MP which is a decrease from the 48MP on the ONEPLUS 8PRO. The 2 extra cameras do not deserve any extra recognition as it is only a depth sensor and a macro camera that doesn’t help much in the photo quality. The 5MP depth sensor does help in getting better portraits and does better edge detection. Added to this a 2MP macro lens help to click crisp macro shots of close up subjects.  Overall, for basic photo capturing the camera does a pretty good job. But if u want the versatility of having a wide angle and a telephoto you must shell out more money and get yourself a ONEPLUS 8 or the 7T. On the front, however, it has an amazing pair of shooters. The standard comes in as a 32MP shooter while for your groupies there is also an 8MP ultrawide sensor with 105-degree field of view.

OnePlus NORD DISPLAY

The NORD just excels in this category by every standard as it comes with flagship level 6.4inch FULL HD (1080*2400) 90HZ AMOLED display. Its everything you could ask for in a display for a phone at that price point.

OnePlus NORD PROCESSOR

The NORD comes with Snapdragon 765G (G-gaming) which happens to be the latest mid-range offering from Qualcomm. While there are a lot of similarities between the SD 865 and the SD765 chipsets, due to the price factor some compromises have to be made. The compromise is that you will be seeing the 5G speed-reducing from 7.5Gbps in the SD 865 to 3.7Gbps on the 765. In India, I don’t think it will be much of a giveaway because getting 5G on a phone at this price point is unbelievable. The chipset performs about 10 percent better compared to the last year’s SD 730G according to some of the benchmark scores. However, in the battery department the chipset manages to be very power efficient compared to the previous generation mid-range processor. Finalizing, the chipset is aiming at providing 5G at mid-range prices and does not have significant improvement compared to last year’s mid-range 730G.

OnePlus NORD BATTERY

The OnePlus NORD comes with a 4115mAh battery which is a pretty decently sized one. The magic is in the charging as it comes with flagship charging speed. ONEPLUS claims the phone can charge from 0-70% in about 30 min which is pretty impressive for a mid-range phone. The phone should last a day with moderate usage. There is also an option for those power-hungry guys to switch the display from 90HZ to 60HZ to obtain better battery performance.

THE VERDICT

ONEPLUS from the start have been very aggressive towards the pricing for their phones. While the prices of the flagships have been gradually increasing over the past years, ONEPLUS finally launched a mid-range phone that can do just as well as the flagship in numerous ways and also a very well-balanced phone. It is easy to recommend this phone for anyone who is looking to buy a phone for sub 30,000INR. My suggestion would be to go with the mid variant that is (8GB+128GB) since it is the most balanced.
