We grab the first thing we see in the morning and stuff it in our mouth. Do we really care to see if it’s good for our body or not? Amidst the hustle and bustle of our working life, we have forgotten to care for our health. So here are some few foods which you should avoid on an empty stomach.
Foods you should avoid on an empty stomach
Bananas: We might believe that eating bananas every morning is probably very healthy for us since duh! bananas are fruits and are flooded with nutrition. But this misconception has to change. However, eating bananas on an empty stomach can affect your heart. Bananas are rich in magnesium and potassium and hence eating them on an empty tummy can overload your bloodstream with these two mentioned nutrients and harm your heart.
Coffee: Are you a coffee person who grabs a cup of coffee first thing in the morning? It’s time to change a few things here as coffee increases acidity and also causes heartburn and indigestion. Coffee reduces the secretion bile and gastric juices, hence making it difficult for you to digest the other food that you eat. It also increases the production of hydrochloric acid in the digestive system which might be a reason for gastritis.
Tomatoes: The high amounts of tannic acid in tomatoes causes acidity that ultimately leads to gastric ulcers. Not only tomatoes but cucumbers are also harmful on an empty stomach as they are hard to digest. So avoid raw veggies early in the morning.
Spicy food: If Paratha with a little lump of mango or lemon pickle is what seems to be your breakfast, it’s time to replace this habit as the spice and heat in the pickle is going to make you squirm in pain. This is due to the spices and chillies on an empty stomach irritating your stomach lining. Therefore causing indigestion and acidity.
Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits definitely increase acid production with very uncomfortable results if you haven’t had anything to eat. The lumpsum amount of fibre and fructose in fruits also slows down digestions and messes up your system all day.
Processed Sugar: Consumption of fruit juice with lots of sugar on an empty stomach can harm your liver and pancreas over the long run. All that sugar can also be a source for your gas and make you feel puffed up or bloated. Pastry and doughnuts should also be avoided first thing in the morning as they may be twice as harmful as sugary fruit juices.
