Silverfish Curry Mangalorean Style Recipe

Silverfish is also called as Yerlio/ Erli, Bolanjir in the coastal region, Mangalore.

Ingredients
  

Fish

  • 1/2 kg Silver fish

Masala

  • 8 Kumti red long chillies
  • 2 Short chillies
  • 1 Small onion
  • 1/4 tsp Jeera/cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Haldi/Turmeric powder
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 8 Pepper corns
  • 1 Marble sized Tamarind
  • 5 tbsp Grated coconut

Others

  • 2 tbsp Coconut oil

Instructions
 

  • Cut and clean the fish.
  • Grind the ingredients for the masala into a fine paste.
  • Keep a vessel, add 2 tbsp coconut oil and add crushed 4 cloves of garlic and fry till golden brown.
  • Add the ground masala and fry well.
  • Add 2 cups masala water. Bring it to a good boil.
  • Add salt to taste.
  • You can add bimblis if you want.
  • Add the fish, give a boil for 2 minutes.
  • Serve hot with rice or neerdosas/panpales.
